Buying a mattress isn’t easy for anyone, but it’s especially hard when you’re looking for a natural, non-toxic mattress. Most traditional mattresses contain a slew of chemicals from toxic flame retardants to formaldehyde. Of all things in your house, the last item you want containing toxic chemicals is your mattress, where you’re breathing these toxins in each night. We’ve had our mattress for many years and I’ve been hesitant to buy a new one as I didn’t want to introduce any chemicals into our home. There are so few options for mattresses that are truly natural.

Zenhaven 100% Natural Latex Mattress

I was thrilled to learn about Saatva’s 100% natural latex mattress, the Zenhaven. This mattress is made with Talaya latex (not petroleum-based or synthetic, like many other latex mattresses), topped with 100% organic wool which acts as a natural flame retardant and covered in an organic cotton cover.

No chemicals are needed on this natural mattress yet it still is resistant to mold, microbes and dust mites.

My Experience with the Zenhaven Mattress

I was sent a complimentary Zenhaven mattress by Saatva. While I waited for the delivery I admit I was still nervous that it would have some sort of smell to it, like all mattresses do and that it would need to off-gas. I was shocked when it was delivered and there was absolutely no chemical smell. This company delivered on their promises of an all-natural and organic mattress. I’m chemical-sensitive, so even the slightest smell bothers me. I had no problem sleeping on this mattress right away, no off-gassing was necessary.

I love that their delivery is fast & free and they even set it up for you and take away your old mattress if necessary.

The Zenhaven mattress has two options for comfort level. One side is their Luxury Plush side, which leans toward a springy, softer feel, while the Gentle Firm side is very firm, perfect for back sleepers (my husband prefers this comfort level). Since my husband and I differ on comfort levels, I chose to add a thin topper to my side, while he enjoys the firmness of the mattress. The mattress makes no noise at all, which makes for a peaceful night’s sleep, as you don’t hear or feel your partner moving around.
