As I mentioned back in April, Aldi announced that by the end of 2015, they are committing to remove MSG, trans fats and synthetic colors from all of their exclusive brand products.
This is a huge step for the American grocery industry. While stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods already have similar commitments, this is an even bigger step as Aldi is not just a natural food store. I hope that as the leader in this move, they will convince other grocers in the country to follow suit.
Aldi is also quickly becoming an equal in the area of organic foods. Over the past few years, they’ve added their Simply Nature line, which includes over 35 certified organic products (see their complete organic price list here) as well as numerous natural products. They’ve also introduced a large line of gluten-free products, Livegfree, as well as “Never Any” antibiotic and preservative-free deli meats and their newest line, Green Action eco-friendly cleaning products.
I’m so excited at the positive changes that keep happening at Aldi, and their commitment to maintaining low prices on these products!
In my price comparisons, Aldi comes in as having the lowest base prices on their natural and organic products. At this time, they do not accept manufacturer coupons, but their prices are significantly lower than their competitors.
Now if only they’d commit to removing GMOs! Maybe that’s next. 🙂
What are your thoughts on these healthy changes happening at Aldi?
