My autoimmune disease has flared up in recent months, and one of the effects is extreme joint pain. It was getting so bad at times, I had difficulty walking and grasping things with my hands. I’ve used collagen in the past for other reasons, and was reminded that this is excellent for joint pain. I’ve been taking it for a little over a week (I prefer Great Lakes collagen) and it has really helped with the pain. So, I thought I’d do a quick price comparison on Great Lakes collagen hydrolysate as I know others use this product. I priced out the top online sites for this and here’s what I found.
Great Lakes Collagen- Best Price
Thrive Market came in much lower than the other sites (and VitaCost currently doesn’t even carry this popular product). Keep in mind, Thrive Market does charge a $59.95 membership fee, but their prices tend to be much lower than their competitors. And, you can get a FREE 30-day trial here.
If you still prefer to shop elsewhere, Amazon is your next best bet. When you buy a 2 pack of the Great Lakes collagen, you’ll pay $20.49 each container.
Local health food stores will likely be higher, but keep an eye out, as I’ve been able to score containers for around $16 at my local Pure Pastures store.
If you prefer the gelatin, here’s a price comparison I did on Great Lakes gelatin:
Great Lakes Gelatin- Best Price
Thrive Market came in quite a bit lower for both Great Lakes gelatin and collagen, so you may want to consider a membership if you’re a frequent buyer of these products, or stock up during the free 30-day trial period.
For more information on the difference between collagen and gelatin (and their benefits), The Healthy Home Economist has a good article explaining this.
I purchased 6 containers of collagen thru thrive market with a 30 day free trial. I planned on ordering more before my 30 days were over. I called the day before my 30 days was to expire (5/21) and told them I needed to order more and they were out of stock. They said they would extend my free trial membership for 5 extra days and I asked what if they didn’t get the product in, and the lady didn’t have an answer. Well, I was charged the membership fee and as of today 6/4, the collagen is still out of stock! I am very disappointed! I do not know how often this happens but I am not happy. They advertise they charge a membership to help poor people who can’t afford their products. I don’t understand why they have to charge so much. I don’t feel there is that much of a savings. Do they really help these “poor people”?
Honestly this is a very selfish comment. You want them to continue to extend their policy so you can get free membership, and you want to tarnish the company’s name because you didn’t want to honor their policy? You really need to assess yourself. How would you have dealt with this situation if this was your company? Would you want your honorable name to be tarnished because you didn’t continue to change your policy? You do realize that you aren’t their only customer, right? So if every customer who is on the trial membership behaved like you, how would the company stay in business? Good Lord! Thank them for extending your trial membership.
