Generally, it is cheaper to buy dry food items in the bulk food section, like I mentioned in my post here. However, sometimes through couponing or in this case, a membership to a warehouse, you can get an even cheaper price by buying prepackaged.
I found two new hot organic deals at Costco that you may want to keep an eye out for next time you are there if you are a fan of the superfoods, quinoa and chia seeds!
I found a 2 lb. bag of organic chia seeds for $13.99 and a 4 lb. bag of organic quinoa for $19.99! Check out how this compares to buying in the bulk section (although, you’re still buying in bulk, just prepackaged).
Nature’s Intent organic chia seeds, 2 lb. $13.99, so just $6.99 per lb! In my comparisons, bulk organic chia sells for $12.99 lb, while prepackaged sells for $13.39, so this is a HUGE savings per pound!
I love making jams, jello and puddings with chia. It’s a great way to get kids to eat this healthy food. You can also sneak it into baked goods and smoothies.
TruRoots organic quinoa, 4 lb. $19.99, so just $5 per lb! In my comparisons, bulk organic quinoa sells for $6.39 lb, while prepackaged sells for $6.76, so again, this is a pretty great savings, especially if you eat this higher-protein grain often!
I found these two items on an end cap in the middle of the grocery section. Products can vary per store, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for! Be sure to stock up if you are interested, as sometimes Costco will take items away without notice. Not sure if a membership is right for you? Have you noticed lately that the chia seeds from Costco have been smelling “moldy”? I even had a taste of mold while eating them this AM in my breakfast oatmeal. We noticed this in the last two bags we have purchased from them.
