There are a few items in our house that you’ll never find. One of them is synthetic food coloring. Did you know that synthetic food coloring is made from petroleum?? Yuck! So, yeah, even small amounts are no good. If there’s one thing I’d recommend someone to swap in their kitchen, it would be food dyes. Other countries have completely banned them, but not the USA (soon I hope). But, you can ban them! There’s a really good alternative that I use, India Tree natural food coloring.
You can get their 3 color (mix the colors to make more) set, with red, blue and yellow for just $14.99 on Amazon. This normally sells for over $25 (yeah, natural is pricier, but cheaper isn’t worth the health sacrifice. Plus, these last a really long time). I own these and keep them in my fridge to prolong the shelf life. We use them in frosting, cakes and anything that you’d normally use food coloring in. The difference is India Tree food dyes are made from fruits and vegetables, not petroleum. It’s fun for my kids to still have fun colored cakes and stuff, but I don’t have to worry about them ingesting petroleum.
You can grab the set here.
