If you’ve joined the Paleo movement, sticking to a tight budget can be difficult. I recently started transitioning to an AIP diet (a restrictive version of Paleo) to help manage my autoimmune disease. The Paleo diet is made up of real foods, including meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. Unfortunately, real foods can oftentimes be pricier than processed foods.
Thanks to stores like Aldi, eating Paleo doesn’t have to mean increasing your budget. Surprisingly, Aldi has a large selection of “Paleo Approved” foods at super affordable prices, including many organic options.
Here’s a long list of over 35 Paleo foods you can find at Aldi to help keep you on a budget.

If you’ve never shopped at Aldi before, it is run a little differently than other stores. Many of these foods should be found at most Aldi’s but products and prices can vary by store. You’ll need to bring a quarter to use the cart. When you return the cart, you’ll get your quarter back. Also, bring your own bags as they don’t provide them. You can use cash or debit only.
While Aldi doesn’t accept manufacturer coupons, they do have other ways to save. I often find healthy foods on clearance, so always keep an eye out for clearance deals (in red). You can also save by submitting your receipt to apps for cash back on qualifying products. Check these apps for the most recent offers before heading to Aldi: Checkout 51, Snap by Groupon and Berry Cart. You can also find temporary price drops on their products in their weekly ad as well as “Special Buy” products that are available while supplies last.

My husband and I recently started the Primal / Paleo diet as well. It is indeed hard and in the first two weeks we ended up spending about $800 on food. Yes, $800!! I was in shock. Well, since then I became a little more organized and careful about spending. Also, I realized that if you want to do the real thing, it will cost a lot, but if you can afford it, it is an investment in your future, in your health. Even if I was to spend $1,500 a month on food (which is a lot!), some people pay that much on a couple of doctor visits and tests. We tried to buy only grass-fed beef, eggs from pasture-raised hens, pasture pork, wild caught fish, organic everything. Of course, that was expensive. Another thing was that we haven’t given up dairy yet. We haven’t decided yet if we should or not, but we definitely cut down. We occasionally have a piece of good cheese as a snack. I shop at Aldi occasionally and I think you covered pretty much every Paleo approved product they have. I also shop at The Fresh Market and Earth Fare. Earth Fare is absolutely amazing. Grass-fed beef for $4.99 pretty often. I bought grass-fed sirloin roast for $4.99 and it was the best roast I ever had. Grass-fed New York steak and rib eye $9.99. Wild-caught salmon for $7.99. They release $10 off $70 coupons about twice a month. They have their own store coupons and they also take manufacturer’s coupons. It has become my favorite store. I am also lucky to have a locally-owned healthy store right in my neighborhood, where I can find lots of good deals too.
We are trying to follow the Paleo Plan too. We shopped at our local Aldi a few months ago to see what they now have to offer, since we have only bought butter there in the past.
We didn’t really find anything that much lower in price as far as the chicken, meat products. We bought some fresh organic vegetables and fruits, but, found they were badly bruised and/or didn’t taste fresh or of decent quality.
We are regular Trader Joes shoppers and find their quality in ALL products superior to Aldi, Jewel and Target too. Their prices are comparable to these other stores mentioned, and some are even lower.
We always know what we are getting from Trader Joes and are able to stock up on such unique products and staples for our family of five. We go twice a month and we can buy everything we need in one place, along with some goodies for the holiday gift giving too, or treats for special occasions.
We always find what we need there too, and their freshness and produce quality cannot be beat!
Sorry, but, Aldi is not a store we feel is worthy of visiting for the Paleo Diet food items..We give them an F in a grade.
Aldi is not my cup of tea. However, to keep my budget in line I started picking up bulk items at Costco and shopping at international grocery stores. I get very good prices on produce, seafood and non-dairy items. I would recommend that any budget conscious Paleo eater give it a try.
I Love Aldi’s. I just started the Paleo AIP lifestyle..I have seen Aldi’s has Never Any chicken sausage…would that be Paleo AIP approved?
I haven’t checked the ingredients, but you’ll probably just have to double check the spices as black pepper is probably used.
OK..Thank you!
